History of Poynette Bowhunters Association
Poynette Bowhunter Association started in 1975 with just a handful of members. At that time, the "club" was shooting indoor archery at a building in downtown Poynette,
and shooting outdoor archery at a fieldtip range created at the home of one of the members.
Through many fundraising events and a growing membership, the organization was able to buy 12-1/2 acres of land just outside of Poynette, and soon after built a clubhouse with 12 shooting
lanes. The club was now set up to shoot indoor archery as well as outdoor fieldtip, broadhead, and soon 3-D at a single location.
PBA's mission statement has always been "to enhance the image and proficiency of the Wisconsin Bowhunter". This mission statement has been the basis for PBA's operation, and is
shown in the activities of the club, including a strong focus on youth archery and the National Archery in the Schools Program.
PBA has also been a strong supporter of the Wisconsin Bowhunters organization, including an annual fundraising “Necedah Warmup” archery shoot,
perennially having more members participating in the WBH State Broadhead Shoot than any other club in the state, and being the first club to become a 101% membership club.
With the focus on youth, archery fundamentals, and community, membership rose to over 300 members. Eventually, there was a desire to get more shooting space for outdoor leagues, and a
second property was purchased near the interstate and used for 3-D leagues and tournaments. More recently, PBA was able to sell their two properties, and obtain a single larger property east of Poynette, and
this is where we are located today.
Poynette Bowhunters has become not only a place of archery fundamentals and archery excellence, but has also become a place of great comradery, where friends and family gather to share in
the passion of archery and community.
